Flounders Folly Restoration Project
Flounders Folly Restoration Project 2001 -2005 Total value £325,000
Flounders Folly is a stone tower near Craven Arms in South Shropshire which was built in 1838 and by the 1990s was in a sad state of repair, with the top part missing. Sula Rayska of RayskaHeriage, heritage consultants, undertook the project management this restoration project from the beginning when she set up the Flounders Folly Building Preservation Trust, through the fundraising stages to the opening by HRH the Princess Royal. The project won a Civic Trust award.
The project involved the following:
- Setting up the Trust
- Arranging community consultation
- Appointing interpretation consultants
- Fundraising, with successful applications to the HLF and other sources including private charitable trusts
- Appointing architects
- Attending site meetings
- Submitting claims for all funding
- Arranging opening by HRH the Princess Royal on 31 October 2005
